Dentan Williams were developing a site on the outskirts of Chatteris for new retain and associated infrastructure. As part of this, the existing drain required diversion and Fox were awarded this package of work.
This project comprised the construction of a diverted section of the Twenty Foot Drain also known as Fenton Lode, together with infilling the previous channel. The objectives of the project were, following the successful diversion of the channel to achieve a platform suitable for the construction of a retail development on top of it.
The works included general site strip to formation level, temporary culverting, site preparation, re-grading the land, top soiling, seeding and maintenance to new grassed areas and hedge for 2 years, river revetment and gabion walling work.
The route of the old channel was backfilled and compacted to specification and an engineered platform was constructed in order to accommodate a new supermarket and surrounding development site.
Whilst this project was severely affected by both the effects of adverse weather conditions encountered during the 2013/14 winter period together with the resultant effects upon moisture sensitive ground the development was delivered both on time and within budget.
